Description
Kentwell Hall is a stately home in Long Melford, Suffolk,
England. It includes the hall, outbuildings, and a rare
breeds farm and gardens. Most of the current building facade
dates from the mid 16th century, but the origins of Kentwell
are much earlier, with references in the Domesday Book of
1086. Kentwell has been the background location for numerous
film and television productions, and, since 1979, has
annually been the scene of Tudor period historical
re-enactments.

What i love about Kentwell Hall is the opertunity for Visitors to have a "hands on" experience of British hostory and country life. In so many museams and stately homes you must stay behind the rope barriers and these days you aren't even allowed to take pictures! Kentwell is one of the most interactive and welcoming experiences in Great Britian.

Agreed - "re-enactment" does not really describe what happens there for a wonderful three weeks in June/July and again over the August Bank Holiday and various other times during the year. What is "re-created" is the whole range of life on a minor Tudor manor (not really "stately home" as lived in by the aristocracy - more middling gentry). There are the Cloptons, and their relations and connections in the house, dining and talking and plotting, but also the whole gamut of servants, indoors and and outdoors - brewers, bakers, dairymaids - and beyond and outside that the water bailiff (someone has to be in charge of the fish-ponds), washerwomen and dyers, visiting chandlers and/or basket makers, someone living in a hovel and a family in a typical 16th C. cott. This apart from the sheer beauty of the place itself - an old walled garden, the beautiful brickwork, the amazing carved "babel" tree and the wonderful range of green, red and gold in a gradually ripening field of barley.
