Description
Smith of Derby has been producing timepieces since 1856 and
has played its part in Derby’s proud industrial heritage.
Since then Smith of Derby clocks have spread all over the
world. If it is a pillar or tower clock it is very likely to
have been built by Smiths or at least maintained by the
company as they service 4,500 clocks in the UK alone. The
new prayer clock is a brainchild of the chief designer,
Kevin Litchfield.

Perhaps if Smiths are selected for the exhibition someone can do something about their old premises in King Street - too small for a museum but too important to ignore!

This family clockmaking business has been going under the name of John Smith and Sons Limited or Smith of Derby for 156 years, indeed longer under another name. It seems to work well. Long may it do so. IT DEFINITELY HAS MY VOTE.
