White Nancy

White Nancy is a folly which overlooks Bollington and Rainow stood high upon Kerridge Hill.

Somehow (!), a long time ago, it was built as a Summerhouse for the Gaskell Family who resided in Bollington in 1815! It has also been rumoured that a White Horse named Nancy carried the brick up the hill, which was how it got it's name.
It is a quick but steep walk up to the top of White Nancy, and she receives many visits everyday from Dog Walkers and Ramblers to Runners and Mountain Bikers! Your heart will be pumping, but when you reach the top, the breathtaking views across the Cheshire Plain, reaching Manchester and Ellesmere Port throughout the seasons are certainly worth it!

White Nancy is very much loved by the local residents, and has been the host to many a traditional Christmas Day celebration where families and friends brave the hill and snow to sing carols to the sound of a Brass Band.

She has also been the host of a number of St Georges Day Celebrations, and over the years, provided a blank canvas, featuring a number of works of art, from a Jimi Hendrix tribute, to a Christmas Pudding, to a St George's Flag during the Football World Cup!

White Nancy has hit a soft spot in everyone who has been lucky enough to take in the wonderful views at the top and is definatly one of the Greats in Great Britain!
